Naniwaya Sohonten (浪花家総本店)

Naniwaya Sohonten is a super famous Taiyaki shop
that first opened in 1909 in Azabu Juban.
They take reservations instead of standing in line.
We picked up our taiyakis 1.5 hours later.
Exterior.
I had always wanted to try their taiyakis and it was good,
but really... 1.5 hour wait? It wasn't THAT fabulous.
Worth a try I guess..

But on a side note,
this shop's owner was the model for およげ!たいやきくん
I loved this song as a kid!
(although when you listen to the lyrics, its a pretty sad song)

love the oyoge taiyaki-kun song. i dont know if its sad though? he gets fried, jumps in the ocean, swims with the fishes and gets caught... right? an epic journey of sorts for a red-bean-filled-aquatic-life-shaped-confection.

1.5 hour wait is a very long time! I mean DANG, how many taiyaki's are they making that requires them 1.5 hours of prep time? i used to buy these greasy tasting taiyaki's at mitsuwa. i waited approximately 1.5 minutes. but i never said " oishii" when i ate it. i ended up giving it to the person who i was with at the time saying "kore, ageru"

keep the blog posts coming, its really cool reading about your food adventures in japan.

lol ... after listening to this song so many times, i was whistling it at work, and someone asked me " what song is that?" and i was like... "swim, red bean paste filled fish"

and they were like... "what?"

me: "eh... its a japanese song"

them: "oh...ok"

i probably did a great disservice to all japanese people by making us sound f'in crazy.

chokuyaku!! iine--
but the song is such a classic
its sad though because he runs away, adventures through the ocean, gets caught & realizes that he's just a 'taiyaki' and gets eaten.. tragic!
